Sun Life Financial Inc. is one of the largest financial services companies based in Canada, with $470 billion of assets under management as of March 31, 2011. Its major operating subsidiary, The Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (representing about 75% to 80% of its consolidated assets and revenues), provides financial protection products in Canada, the United States and Asia, including life and health insurance for individuals and groups. A second subsidiary, Sun Life Global Investments Inc., houses wealth management operations such as variable annuities and mutual fund and institutional investment management, largely conducted by a 94%- owned subsidiary, MFS Investment Management.
