DBRS Morningstar & EDW Co-Hosted “Surveilling the Securitisation Landscape: From Autos to STS” Event in Frankfurt

DBRS Morningstar co-hosted an event titled, “Surveilling the Securitisation Landscape: From Autos to STS” today with European DataWarehouse at DBRS Morningstar’s Frankfurt office.

Topics discussed at the event concentrated on Germany, the securitisation market, and the Securitisation Regulation (EU) 2017/2402 (STS), which was enacted in January 2019.

Today’s event featured presentations from DBRS Morningstar analysts and panel discussions with distinguished guests such as Dr. Christian Thun (Chief Executive Officer, European DataWarehouse), Michael Huertas (Co-Head of the Financial Institutions Regulatory Practice Group in Europe, Dentons), Bernhard Zahel (Director - Portfolio Manager – Fixed Income, DWS Investment GmbH) and Diana Gomes (Risk Economist, European Central Bank).

On a panel moderated by Gordon Kerr (Head of European Research, Global Structured Finance, DBRS Morningstar), these guests shared insightful information on the usefulness of loan-level data, and its potential to better inform investors, regulators and market participants.

Highlights from the event:

--Adriana Alvarado (Vice President, Global Sovereign Ratings, DBRS Morningstar) discussed the current slowdown in Germany, in which the industrial sector is going through the sharpest downturn since the global financial crisis.

--Alfonso Candelas (Head of European Surveillance, DBRS Morningstar) provided an overview of the DBRS Morningstar European surveillance process and highlighted the performance of auto and consumer ABS transactions, focusing on residual value risk in auto ABS transactions.

--Michael Osswald (Managing Director, STS Verification International) and Gordon Kerr discussed the developments of the simple, transparent and standardised (STS) label and insights from one of the verification agents.
